More than 30 million elementary school-aged children in Sub-Saharan Africa do not go to school. 18 million of these children are girls.

The benefits of education go far beyond being able to read a book or sign your name. Educated girls grow up to be mothers with healthier children than their less educated peers. Their children are more likely to be educated themselves and less likely to be impoverished. By educating one child, we can empower generations.

The TARA Project’s first and largest program is our education program, Thriving Scholars. Through Thriving Scholars, TARA is:

- Providing scholarships
- Researching hygiene solutions to increase girls regular attendance in school
- Partnering with local schools to identify ways to provide safe, well equipped learning spaces

Our scholars are not the only ones to benefit from TARA’s Thriving Scholars program— their families and communities benefit, too. Our scholars contribute to TARA’s larger goal of lifting communities out of poverty by serving as teachers, health workers, engineers, mobilizers and leaders in their home communities.

The TARA Project seeks to expand our girls’ education program in rural Kenya to include:

more scholarships, access to safe and clean toilets, classroom supplies, school uniforms and shoes,
and a tutoring program, removing the barriers to education so our girls can focus on learning.

Yoga and TARA have some things in common: flexibility, respect and inclusiveness. So get in your warrior pose and help us educate the next generation—a little goes a long way! To find out more go to www.taraproject.org
