BANGKOK SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA CONDUCTOR: MICHAEL ENGLAND LEILA BENN HARRIS JOHN OWEN-JONES
West End Musicals maestro Michael England is set to return to Bangkok by popular demand after the fantastic performance he directed here with the BSO last year – to a completely sold-out and thrilled TCC! Expect more of the same on Friday 17th October as he works his interpretive magic on a magnificent potpourri of showstoppers from no less than fourteen top musicals.
Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s huge and universally loved repertoire of shows provides the core for this programme, and star singers John Owen-Jones and Leila Benn Harris will commence their alternate solo and duet numbers with hits from Aspects of Love, Starlight Express, The Woman in White, and Love Never Dies.
Claude-Michel Schönberg’s Miss Saigon Suite will then showcase the BSO’s powerful forces alone before a selection from his biggest box-office success – the stage phenomenon Les Misérables. Here the Bangkok audience will have a privileged opportunity to witness John Owen-Jones in the mighty role of Jean Valjean. He has been hailed as the finest ever exponent of this much-played character, whilst Leila Benn Harris has a close association with the counterpart role of Eponine.
Old-time razzmatazz from classic shows A Chorus Line and Guys and Dolls will provide a stylistic contrast, leading ultimately to the climax of the show – a sequence from the incomparable Phantom of the Opera. Owen-Jones and Harris are well-known for their portrayals of The Phantom and Christine Daaé respectively in the original London production, so the level of anticipation as they take to the TCC stage for this treat will be high. John Owen-Jones himself has played this role around 1,500 times!
