Khabib Nurmagomedov defends his lightweight title against the former champion Conor McGregor on October 7 (Oct. 6 in the US, 7th Oct BKK time). The bout headlines UFC 229 held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, the promotion announced on Saturday in Los Angeles (Sunday morning in Bangkok).

The event marks a highly anticipated return of McGregor who hasn’t stepped inside the Octagon since November 2016 when he stopped Eddie Alvarez in the second round and won the belt. “The Notorious” however went through the ropes last August taking on Floyd Mayweather Jr. who earned the tenth round TKO win.

McGregor was stripped off UFC lightweight title ahead of UFC 223 in April. The event was headlined by Nurmagomedov and a short notice replacement Al Iaquinta who contested for the title going the five-round distance. “The Eagle” won the fight by decision and became a new champion in the division. He is scheduled for his first title defense at the upcoming show.

“At 26-0, Russia’s Nurmagomedov has been untouchable as a pro, and his recent wins over Michael Johnson, Edson Barboza and Al Iaquinta have only strengthened his place as one of the greatest lightweights ever,” stated in the announcement. “But Ireland’s McGregor, the first man to hold two UFC titles simultaneously, has made a career of achieving what some say is impossible, and this fall, he plans on putting a “1” in Nurmagomedov’s loss column while taking back the crown he never lost in the Octagon.”
